Cherupayar Thoran (Easy Mung Bean / Green Gram Stir fry with Coconut)
Cherupayar thoran is one of those quintessential ‘Comfort foods’ in Kerala. It is often made along with rice porridge, served with some coconut chutney, papad, and pickle on the side. It is a great side dish with rice too. Keralites love to have the leftover (from lunch) Cherupayar thoran at tea time as a snack too!
Kanji and payar is often taken when one is not feeling too well, and the appetite is lost. It is also great after days of feasting, to soothe the stomach. Another dish that is similar(made with brown bean and served with porridge (minus the coconut) is Vanpayar Ularthiyathu ,

How to make Cherupayar Thoran (Easy Mung Bean / Green Gram Stir fry with Coconut) – Recipe at a glance:
- Cook the beans till tender. Crush ingredients. Saute in oil then add the cooked beans and coconut. Toss everything together. Done.

- 3/4 cup grated coconut
- 4 shallots
- 4 large cloves of garlic
- 4 dried red chillies (or to taste)
- 4 curry leaves
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
