The Best TUNA MELT (Open-faced)

Legend has it that the Tuna Melt was an unintentional recipe at a Southern Diner in the 60’s, that came about when a bowl of tuna was accidentally tipped onto a grilled cheese in the making…

We don’t know, this for sure, but one thing we do know is that the Tuna Melt is considered classic American comfort, ‘Diner food’.

If you love a good sandwich, or a tuna sandwich or grilled cheese, you are likely to be a fan of the Tuna Melt also.

In a Tuna Melt, toasted bread is topped with your favorite tuna filling and sliced or grated cheese and put under the broiler till the cheese is perfectly melted over the filling, giving you a toasted, warm sandwich. Skip the top slice of bread, and you have an Open-faced Tuna Melt, which happens to be my favorite! It just seems like a more adult meal, than a sandwich to me too. What do you think?

How to make The Best TUNA MELT (Open-faced) – Recipe at a glance:

  • Prepare the easy sandwich filling.
  • Butter and lightly grill the toasts, individually.
  • Top each toast with filling and cheese.
  • Grill/Broil till cheese is melted. We use a microwave with a grill setting.
  • Optional- Torching and garnish. Serve with a fork and spoon!

  • Mayonnaise
  • Special seasoning mix- 3 ingredient
  •  Lemon
  • White sandwich bread
