Savoury Tea time Tapioca – Easiest Preparation
Tapioca is loved throughout Kerala. People love it in all forms, savoury, sweet, fried chips.. One item that will always cause any Keralite to salivate just by the thought is Kappa and Ulli Chamanthi (tapioca with shallot relish/chutney). It is prepared by simply boiling fresh tapioca till tender and then serving with this delicious relish made by crushing shallots, with hot green chilli, pouring fresh coconut oil into the mixture and adding salt to taste.
Quite delicious, and you will tend to eat a lot, but the onion chutney does leave its mark on your breath for a while! Still… this duo is just a star couple.
My sister in law taught me a different way to make Tapioca once, and now we prefer this method. It’s so easy to make. You’ve still got that hot, fluffy, soft tapioca and the flavouring of shallots but more subtly so. it also uses no oil.
You will still tend to eat a lot 🙂

Ingredients:
- 1 Medium sized Tapioca (use fresh ones for this recipe)
- 2-3 shallots
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1 sprig Curry leaves
- Salt to taste
