Fried Tuna Sandwich

Difficulty: Beginner Prep Time 5 mins Cook Time 3 mins Total Time 8 mins
Servings: 5

Description

A unique, hot twist on the traditional cold tuna salad sandwich. Instead of mixing canned tuna with mayo and eating it chilled, this recipe involves lightly frying flaked tuna in butter until it develops savory, golden-crisp edges while remaining tender. It is seasoned with a robust blend of Montreal Steak Seasoning and coarse black pepper, giving it a surprisingly meaty and smoky profile.

  1. Open the canned tuna and drain out all the oil thoroughly.
  2. In a wide nonstick pan, heat the butter.
  3. Add the drained tuna and lightly fry in the butter. Keep covered to prevent splatter. Open and stir frequently.
  4. We want to fry it so that there are golden, crisp bits here and there, and yet some of the fried tuna remains soft. If you fry the tuna till it goes crisp uniformly, the tuna tends to turn hard.
  5. Add Montreal steak seasoning and coarse black pepper. Stir through to distribute the seasoning evenly.
  6. Toast the sandwich bread and butter both slices of toast for each sandwich.
  7. Spread about 1 Tbsp of mayonnaise on one slice. Top with about 3 Tbsp of the fried tuna filling. Place some shredded lettuce over this.
  8. On the other toasted, butter slice of bread, place the cucumber slices, followed by a few slices of tomato. Keep the cucumber and tomato slices slightly thicker for a better texture and flavor.
  9. Press the assembled slices together and serve your Fried Tuna Sandwich immediately.

Note

  • Montreal Steak seasoning is a combination of black and white pepper, dried garlic, onion powder, chili flakes, paprika, coriander seeds, dill seeds, mustard seeds, a little rosemary, and sea salt. If you don't have it, use a pinch of all the above, or what you have available.
  • Key Ingredients: Tuna, Bread, Butter, Mayonnaise,  Spice, Cucumber, Tomato, Lettuce.
