Beef Burger with Mushrooms Recipe

Prep Time 20 mins Cook Time 20 mins Total Time 40 mins

Ingredients

To Assemble, you will need the following:

Instructions

Video
  1. Squeeze out water from mushrooms and Process till matches the beef mince. Gently process the mince along with it if it contains more fat.
  2. Squeeze out the milk from the bread. Combine all remaining ingredients gently with a ladle or hands. Do not over-mix.
  3. Form into patties on waxed paper (around 8 large patties).
  4. Make sure the center is slightly more indented than the border - this keeps the patties from shrinking while grilling.
  5. Place in freezer on a a tray lined with parchment, to set.
  6. Lightly grease the griddle pan with oil/butter. Griddle pan, Toast the inside of the buns slightly, about 30 seconds.(or use air fryer)
  7. Toast the insides of the buns in a pan with a little olive oil or butter and aside.
  8. Arrange patties on the grill pan. Cook 2-3 minutes on one side, sprinkling salt as soon as you lay them down. (Medium heat).
  9. Turn over. Salt and cook for 2-3 minutes on theĀ other side also.

To Assemble:

TOP BunĀ ( The bun that goes on top of the burger ie, the crown):

  1. Lay it toasted side upwards and spread toppings, follow this order:
  2. 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise( I like Hellman's)
  3. 1 Tbsp Ketchup (I like Heinz)
  4. 3 slices dill pickle
  5. 2-3 rings of freshly sliced white/yellow onion
  6. 1 large round slice of tomato
  7. 3 Iceberg lettuce leaves
  8. (See edit below)

Bottom Bun:

  1. 4 squirts of American mustard (I like Masterfoods), spaced evenly
  2. As the patties finish cooking tilt the pan, press the patty to expel excess oil, and set on top of the assembled bun
  3. If you like cheese on your burger, add it on top of the warm patty and then cover with the bottom bun.

Edit 2023: I now make these burgers, adding two layers of Caramelized onions, and spreading the top and bottom buns with a mix of mayo and thousand island dressing. No mustard or pickle. Thyme is added to the patties.Mozzarella Cheese slices top the hot patties. I also use the Airfryer to cook each patty at a time at 200c for 15-17 minutes, flipping after 10 minutes. They are even yummier than before.

Note

  • How to make Caramelized Onions.
  • You can assemble the buns as mentioned and heat up just the bottom assembled bun before serving to keep the patty hot while preserving the crispness of veggies.
  • You can try using other mushrooms of your choice. Canned mushrooms are used because they do not have any overpowering flavor. Another suggestion; is Swiss Brown or Portobello.
  • The patties are wonderful grilled on the barbecue as well.
  • Key Ingredients: Beef, Bun, Mushroom, Onion, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickle, Mayonnaise, Ketchup, Mustard, Egg, Garlic, Nutmeg, Pepper, Oil, Salt.
