Instant Gulab Jamun – Sweet Dumplings in Rose Syrup
A Super quick dessert – an Instant version of the Popular Indian Sweet Dish! Super Quick Gulab Jamun. Very Good.
Instant Gulab Jamun – Sweet Dumplings in Rose Syrup
Ingredients:
- 4 Slices of Bread
- 1 cup Milk
- ¾ cup water
- ¾ cup sugar
- ½ tsp rose essence
- Oil for frying
Method:
For Syrup:
- To a small sauce pan, add ¾ cup sugar. To this add ¾ cup water and heat till the sugar is just melted.
- Remove from heat and add essence.
For Jamun:
- Cut each slice of bread into three strips, soak these strips in milk.
- Form balls from each strip of bread by gently shaping -Do not squeeze the balls. Mould as smoothly as possible.
- Deep fry them. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon.
- Drop into sugar syrup with rose essence.
- You have Jamun ready in just Minutes!

Notes:
- This is a great quick dessert fix!
- Gulab jamun is traditionally made with milk powder or ‘Khoya'( made by simmering full-fat milk in an iron wok for several hours, over a medium fire. The gradual vaporization of its water content leaves coagulated solids in milk, which is khoya.) of powdered milk, a pinch of all-purpose flour (optional), egg, baking powder and butter; kneaded to form a dough, molded into balls, deep fried and dropped into simmering sugar syrup.
- For a variation you can use very dilute maple syrup in place of the rose syrup.
