Pressure Cooker Chicken Biryani – Quick, Simple and Yummy!

In just about any household in the Indian subcontinent, Biryani is made a couple of times a month. It is made for festivities, special occasions, and parties, but in many households, it also makes a weeknight meal. The task of preparing a Biryani may be daunting for many and considered a high effort dish. There are so many special varieties of Biryani. Chicken Biryani is, without doubt, the most commonly made.

There are versions where well marinated, yet raw chicken is cooked under partially cooked rice in a process called ‘Dum’ or ‘Dum Phukt’. The rice and the chicken marinade cook together to give wonderfully aromatic rice, with tender, succulent chicken that has been deeply penetrated with all the delicious marinade.

Then there are versions when the chicken masala/gravy or curry is cooked first, cooking the chicken all the way through, then cooking prepared ‘ghee rice‘ and layering these two elements and cooking or baking them together again in a partial ‘dum’ method.

Today, I am sharing my favorite recipe for making Instant Chicken Biryani (Pressure Cooker Chicken Biryani ). A lovely tasting Biryani without all the fuss of more than one cooking vessel and various steps. Making this biryani, is simplified, using a pressure cooker. Follow the ingredients and steps precisely to achieve rice that is cooked perfectly, with the flavorsome chicken masala.

How to make Pressure Cooker Chicken Biryani – Recipe at a glance:

  1. Marinate boneless chicken pieces, with a few basic ingriedients, briefly.
  2. Prepare tomato puree and soak the rice briefly. Drain the rice well.
  3. Fry this rice in ghee.
  4. Add onion and other fresh ingredients as well as spices to the pressure cooker and fry the marinated chicken lightly in this.
  5. Add a few more simple, specified ingredients, water and the drained -fried rice.
  6. Pressure cook according to recipe, and you will have a quick simple and tasty biryani ready on your table.
