“Meen Chatti Curry – and the total experience! ” ‘Chatti’ refers to the particular type of earthenware used for cooking authentic, spiced fish curries.

The traditional Kerala Fish Curry has got a brand new look.. Not quite new actually, Here we are going back in time. Many modern restaurants have stopped serving the traditional spicy fish curry in porcelain and now like to entice customers by serving the curry in olden style clay pots. These clay pots differ from the earthenware used for cooking the fish curry. They are wider, and a lot like the earthenware used for cooking appam/Mutta pathiri. The cooked curry is transferred to these clay pots. It is a well-known fact that fish curry cooked in clay pots is so much tastier. And serving the curry in these type of pots elevates the experience further.

Recently one of my readers asked for this recipe. I have plenty of different fish curries on my blog. However, the ‘Chatti Curry’ is slightly different in flavors. It’s red and spicy but not numbingly spicy. It is sour but not heavily so. It is an olden style curry with coconut milk, but the coconut milk does not mask all the spices and just acts as a carrier.

I have developed two recipes, from my favorite restaurant dishes. Here is the first one, for you to try.
