Beef Mandi (Arabian Fragrant Rice with Beef)

Sharing this easy Beef Mandi recipe, which incorporates delicious oven-roasted beef ribs! Quite easy to make.  Instead of beef, you could use mutton also or better yet, head over to my Mutton Mandi or Mutton Kabsa post. Don’t forget to check out my other Arabian-style rice dishes. Our Beef Mandi is garnished with fried Onion and served with Mandi Salsa.

How to make Beef Mandi (Arabian Fragrant Rice with Beef) – Recipe at a glance:

  • Marinate Beef. Soak and Drain rice.
  • Pressure cook beef.
  • Measure spices to be used.
  • Cook rice.
  • Oven roast beef.
  • Top the cooked rice with roasted beef and additional garnish.

You might also like:

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg beef leg, cut into even-sized medium cubes
  • 1 kg beef ribs/shoulder with bones
  • 4 cups Basmati Rice
  • 3-4 Tbsp Coriander chopped plus more for garnish and for cooking rice and beef
  • 1 tsp Saffron soaked in 3 Tbsp hot water
  • 2 Onions- sliced thinly fried till golden in oil for the final garnish.

To Marinate Beef:

  • 5 1/2 Tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 cup Lemon Juice
  • 2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 2 tsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric  powder
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper powder
  • 1 tsp ground Cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground Cloves
  • 2 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Olive Oil

To Cook Rice:

  • 4 Tbsp Sunflower oil
  • Whole Spices for Rice ( *see below)
  • Mandi Spice Powder Mix for Rice ( *see below)
  • 4 Red Onions, sliced
  • Optional ( 1 tsp minced garlic, 1/2 capsicum or one small green capsicum, sliced, 1 carrot, sliced )
  • 8 cups water
  • 3 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 large handful of Mint leaves
  • 1 larger handful of Coriander leaves

Whole Spices For Rice*:

  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Cloves
  • 1 tsp Black Peppercorns
  • 1 tsp Green Cardamom pods (remove outer husk and use just  the seeds)
  • 4 Bay leaves
  • 4 Pieces of Mace
  • 1 Tbsp Cinnamon sticks

Mandi Spice Powder Mix for Rice*:

  • 3/4 tsp Coriander powder
  • 3/4 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground Cumin
  • 1/8 tp ground Cinnamon powder
  • less than 1/8 tsp ground Cloves
  • 1 Black(Dried) Lime/ Loomi, cut into half

Mandi Salsa:

  • 4 Tomatoes
  • 1 bunch of Fresh Coriander
  • 3 Tbsp Mint leaves
  • 3 small Green chillies
  • 2-3 tsp Lime juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Olive oil
